Are there effective home remedies for uti or kidney infections?

  • Kelli T asked on Sat, 09 Dec, 2006
i have a uti that jumped into being a kidney infection, i am allergic to some antibiotics, so the thought of taking them is kind of scary, just wondering if there are any effective home remedies for the pain and for the infection.
  • Mark T replied on Sat, 09 Dec, 2006
Yikes. If you have a kidney infection GET IT TREATED PROPERLY or risk kidney damage. Did I make that last bit clear? DAMAGE As a useful preventative, cranberry juice is highly beneficial to bladder / uti prevention. If you have kidney infection taking place however you NEED proper medical attnetion unless you are happy to gamble with the future of your kidneys. Seriously, see a doc TODAY

Lot's of water and cranberry juice will help to flush it out of your system but you will still need to have medication to cure the infection. Cranberry juice is the best for flushing stuff out of your body. Drink it regularly and it will help keep your system clear.

Hmmmmmmmm, home remedies. As far as I know (being an doctor).... is cranberry juice!! If you have succumbed to renal infection you need alternate antibiotics that you're not allergic to because, 'home remedies' are just not gonna cut it unless its just a simple UTI.

cranberry juice and LOTS of water But you should get it checked just in case. they also sell a cranberry pill at most pharmacies

cranberry juice is ok, but not the kind you buy in the store. if you have a juicer, make your own juice, it will be bitter, add some apples to sweeten it up, or a pineapple. drink it every night before you go to bed. this will work much faster than the store bought kind, which is mostly water. (read the label) if you don't have a juicer, put the cranberries in a pan and add a little water, boil and mash, then run through a strainer. as soon as i feel a uti comming on i do this, haven't had to see a doctor for one for years. you still need to see a doctor if this has gone on for more than a few days without clearing up.

If you think you have a kidney infection you need to go see your doctor. You may need intervenous antibiotics and bed-rest. I had a really bad UTI that thankfully I got treated for right in time before it became a kidney infection and the treatment for that was pretty intense. Docs go after kidney infections aggressively.
